In it the solo instrument has the chance of unfolding its full capacities. I consider that a fundamental work for cello and orchestra in the 20th century. In this concerto I can see the present day history of both this country and the world as a whole, with all its vicissitudes, conflicts and beauty. The concerto is neither sentimental nor heavy metal.
